Safety Features Every New Vehicle Should Have

We all want to keep ourselves and our families as protected as possible while driving, so it is highly suggested to search for a vehicle with a 5-star safety rating.

If you are unable to prioritize a vehicle with a 5-star safety rating because of price, you should at the very least make sure the vehicle includes things such as traction control, daytime running lights (DRL), and anti-lock brakes.

These safety features will protect you and your family in a variety of situations and can even lower your monthly insurance costs.

Traction Control

This is an essential safety feature as it helps keep traction between your tires and the roadway when roads are slippery or there are dangerous driving conditions.

Traction control limits how much a car’s wheels spin, making it easier to stay connected to the surface the vehicle is driving on.

It has active sensors in each of the four tires that keep an eye on the speed of the vehicle and what the tires are doing. If a tire spins faster than the speed the car, traction control steps in to avoid skidding and hydroplaning.

While traction control can be shut off by a driver, it is suggested to leave it on throughout all seasons.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL)

While you probably don’t think of daytime lights as being a top safety feature, they can do wonders when it comes to helping other drivers see you while on the roadways during the day. They are also ideal for driving during the day when it is overcast or there is precipitation.

These can also be paired with automatic headlights that will turn on when it gets dark out, ensuring that you can always see on the roadways no matter the weather or time of day.

Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS)

Anti-lock brakes are another safety feature that everyone should look for when purchasing a new vehicle, as they stop your vehicle’s wheels from locking when you have to slam on the brakes.

These brakes will allow you to have greater control over your vehicle and steering wheel and are a huge asset when you run into snowy or slick roads.
